Mission

I have created this blog to serve as a vehicle for my personal explorations into the world of music, so that I can record these explorations and share them with others who might be interested in finding new music, exploring classic hits, learning about bands or individual artists, or investigating previously unexplored genres (or anything else that catches my curiosity.

Growing up, both of my parents had very broad taste in music, so I was exposed to all kinds of music. But when I became a teenager I subscribed to the idea that the music I listened to was something I consumed for the purpose of describing my identity to other people. So, I only listened to music that I thought aligned with my “identity” at any given point in time, and I deprived myself of music that didn’t “fit” with that image. For about 10 years I did this until I finally realized that music existed to be enjoyed and limiting myself just resulted in missing out for over a decade on a lot of incredible music.

I have no formal training or background in music, but I have a Master of Arts in Literature, so I’m hoping to approach the subject of music the same way I might have researched and wrote about an author or a literary piece; I also have sound-to-color synesthesia, so I will share, when appropriate, my personal experience of a piece (or body) of music.

I’m about 10 years into exploring music for myself with a more open mind, and I want to find out just how deep this rabbit hole can go. No genre, time period, region, or artist is off-limits.

Let’s find out what’s out there–if you join me, I hope you find something new.
